Optometrist Recommendations

Postby Mussakka » Sat Jul 23, 2011 4:23 pm

It's that time again: need new glasses.

Can anyone recommend a really good optometrist in the Raleigh area? I've been using Johnson Optometric in Garner for quite a while. They're good and I have no real beef with them, but I'd really like to find someone different.

I'm diabetic and would need complete diabetes-related screenings, as well. Also, chances are I'll be using Zenni Optical for the actual prescription, so would like to avoid doctors that balk at that.

Hi!
Ted Petrowski at the Duke Eye Center is the best around....he has 20+ years of experience in both basic and diabetic eye exams, and is one of the nicest doctors I've ever dealt with.

Hope this helps!

I highly, HIGHLY recommend Dr. Ryan Beyer in Cary at Doctor's Vision Center. He and his staff are all outstanding and he helped me through a very serious cornea condition that I didn't know I had and he got me back into contact lenses after I had to stop wearing them to let my corneas heal. I just cannot say enough good about him. He's a very skilled doctor with a warm and congenial bedside manner. His staff bend over backward to help you and are warm and friendly as well. I love that place.

^^^ I should add that he's worth driving to Cary to see (I live in North Raleigh). I had started going there when I lived in Cary but moved 4 years ago and just can't bear to go anywhere else.

I totally agree with this recommendation! Dr Beyer has been our ophthalmologist for a long time. Karen said it well.
Before we were with Dr. Beyer, we were seeing Dr Susan Durham, but she moved to the Brier Creek office.
Last week I needed a last minute appointment and couldn't get in with Dr. Beyer, so they made me an appointment with Dr. Durham. I was reminded of how much we always liked her as well.
Then I had to pick up a pair of trial contacts, and only the Beaver Creek office was open at that point. They were so nice, I concluded that Doctor's Vision Center is just a great company all around. At least in this area!

clippy...you were lucky with Dr. Durham then. She knew about that cornea condition that I had and never told me about it...almost caused serious damage but it didn't, thanks to Dr. Beyer! I was blessed because I was going to see her one day in particular since she was my doc but she was booked so I saw him, and haven't looked back (no pun intended). He has been such a blessing and saved my sight from her negligence. The condition was documented in my chart but she never told me about it and never told me that I needed to stop wearing gas permeable contacts.

Dr. Beyer sounds really good. I'll have to check him out.
