Hi from Angier!Just wanted to say hi and Happy 2011! We as a family have "played" around with couponing over the years but I would really like to see what I can do with it this year if I am diligent!
I was wondering how you guys actually do it? I am talking about the fact that it "seems" that most of the best deals are always gone by the time I hit the grocery store. We have tried going back when they "restock" the items but have not had great luck in actually finding the items. Just curious if there was some sort of secret that I am missing? We ususally go to the HT in Fuquay. Is it worth going to surrounding areas? I am going to start digging thru the posts and see if I can gain any insight on the best way to rock on with this effort! Thanks so much for any advice and I am looking forward to getting to know you guys here Welcome to SavvyDollar!
I don't know that there is any particular method of couponing that helps to find the deals in the store before the shelves are cleared. Someone recently posted about looking for sale items on endcaps and other locations within the store where they might not be depleted as quickly as the regular shelf location. Other than that and getting there early on the first day, I am not sure there is a "trick" to doing it. But, you can just ask lots of questions here and you will get answers! ~Mindi
Welcome Jan!
Couponing is a hit or miss sometimes. The best deals are sometimes hard to find. For HT, it would be a good idea to get a raincheck for something you really need if you can't find it in the store. Even though the 1.00 and up coupons won't double after this week, HT runs SD pretty regularly and since the rainchecks don't expire, you can use them to get that item the next time when there won't be any competition. That works best if the coupon has a long expiration date, but if not, hopefully another one will come out that you can use. If you have several HTs nearby, it can be helpful to check in different stores. Some of them are much better about keeping the shelves stocked. And if nothing else, keep in mind that even if you miss out on a deal, there are always more around the corner! I usually call before I go if there's a big promotion going on, if HT is doing Super Doubles for example, and find out when they will be restocking. I think HTs are on alternate schedules with the truck (they call it an A/B schedule) so some stores get a truck one night and some get it the next.
And welcome to our little frugal family! Karen Hi, my name is Karen, and I'm a Super Doublaholic...
