Cheaper Haircuts & Highlight - Hair Academy?

Postby NancyD » Thu Jul 09, 2009 2:17 pm

I just did some research and found the Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill and Mitchell's Academy in Cary. Has anyone been to either of these? What do you think? Are you taking a significant risk for the discounted price? Are the students adequotely supervised by instructors? Should I not risk it and just look for one of those weekday specials at a good salon?

Thanks for your opinion.

I've been to Mitchells in Cary and I have to say for the most part they're great. Like any hair cutting situation, it can be hit or miss. Realize these people are learning. What I do that I have found that helps is I bring in a picture of the style in my case since I do not color my hair. With the picture they will talk it over with one of their supervisors usually and everything comes out well.

I was VERY pleased with my last cut from there. The prices are quite discounted too. I paid 12.50$ for a wash, cut and style. Before I moved to NC I was used to spending atleast 80$ on my hair in NY and there were many times when I felt robbed. But paying 12.50$ plus tip I can say I have always come out pleased.
I found the website for Mitchells Academy for you it lists all their prices.

I've known people that have been to Aveda and loved it as well.

I don't know about Mitchells..
But i just graduated from Aveda a month ago so i can tell you about aveda.
If you go there ask for an advance student..(if not you can be there for four to five hours!) haircuts for advance students i beleive is 25.00..and the highlights and low lights depending on the hair can still be a round 55.00 to 65.00 dollars. If you interested you pm and I can tell you where the salons around cary and durham has the best deals!
