News and Observer $25 Kroger Gift CardI was at the WF Kroger on Saturday and there was a fellow there handing out free papers. I told him I already had a paper at home (and wasn't free LOL), and he asked if I was getting a discount. I said no, I had just renewed for six months through their Easy Pay plan at full price. He told me if I signed up with him I could get a $25 Kroger gift card and they would refund my original payment and start with a monthly (automatic draft) for the same amount. So I did; and will see if they honor it.
Hey! I was in Kroger tonight and there was an N&O guy handing out free papers in an effort to sell some subscriptions. I remembered this post, so, I decided to strike up a conversation with him and he gave me the same deal because I had only been getting the N&O for 2 weeks. He said that with the EASYPAY option I was locked in indefinitely to $12.70 a month for the 7 day delivery. That's better than the bill that they sent me and I got the $25 Kroger gift card to boot!

I sign up for Sun only. A week or 2 after I renew, I get a call asking if I want to try the daily paper at no charge. Of course I say yes. The paper comes daily for the remainder of my subscription, for the price of Sun only. When it's time to renew, the bill comes and only lists the 7 day subscription rate, but I just go online and renew for Sun only. And the whole cycle repeats. I admit that I had to do without my daily paper for a few months recently, but just got the free offer again. I've seen some posts here where the N&O rate has been negotiated. When it's time to renew, I think I'll try that for Sun only and then see if I get the offer for free daily papers. Double dip! Newspapers are suffering from declining circulation rates, and I think they are trying very hard to keep the numbers up in order to keep the ad revenue coming in. This means you should be able to get a good deal on subscriptions. Good luck, Dixie Dixie
